Then Vīrabhadra, the giantlike personality, sat on the chest of Dakṣa and tried to separate his head from his body with sharp weapons, but was unsuccessful.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Vīrabhadra, sitting on the chest of Dakṣa, though trying to cut off his head with a sharp sword, could not separate it from the body. Hetinā means “using a sword.” Tat refers to his head. Tryambakaḥ is Vīrabhadra.
Vīrabhadra sat on Dakṣa's chest but could not sever the head — even cosmic anger meets unexpected resistance. Don't assume that righteous force gets clean victories. The path of consequence has obstacles.
Reflection Questions
  • Where do I assume that righteous action will produce clean outcomes?
  • What surprises me when even just causes face resistance?
