Thus Lord Śiva, being extremely angry, pressed his lips with his teeth and immediately snatched from his head a strand of hair which blazed like electricity or fire. He stood up at once, laughing like a madman, and dashed the hair to the ground.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Śiva, with locks of matted hair, biting his lips, snatched a hair which blazed terribly like fire or lightning, and, becoming ferocious, he stood up. Laughing and roaring loudly, he forcibly threw the hair on the ground. Saṭā means blazing. Rudraḥ ṁeans he became ferocious.
Śiva snatched a strand of his blazing hair and dashed it to the ground — divine anger has form and consequence. Your inner fire, when finally released, will create something real. Take care what you unleash; it acquires a life.
Reflection Questions
  • What has my anger already created in my world that now has a life of its own?
  • Am I aware of what my inner fire is building before I unleash it?
