The great sages, thus manifesting their covert anger, immediately decided to kill the King. King Vena was already as good as dead due to his blasphemy against the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Thus without using any weapons, the sages killed King Vena simply by high-sounding words.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The sages, deciding to kill him, increased their anger, and by incantations killed Vena, who was destroyed by criticism of the Lord.
Without weapons, the sages killed Vena with their high-sounding words; he was already as good as dead from blasphemy. Spiritual speech can be lethal when it is true and the speaker is empowered.
Reflection Questions
  • Where have I underestimated the actual power of true words spoken by realized persons?
  • What kind of speech-power am I cultivating, and against what would it be used?
