You are so much devoted to the demigods, but who are they? Indeed, your affection for these demigods is exactly like the affection of an unchaste woman who neglects her married life and gives all attention to her paramour.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Who is the master of sacrifice for whom you show devotion, like the devotion of unchaste women who give up affection for their husbands for a paramour?
Your devotion to the demigods is like an unchaste wife giving all attention to her paramour while neglecting her real husband — me. Don't be deceived by sophisticated speech-acts in the mouth of a demoniac claimant.
Reflection Questions
  • Where am I being persuaded by an articulate but inverted argument?
  • What helps me detect when an analogy is doing the work of a fundamentally false claim?
