My dear son, the killing of the sinless Yakṣas which you have undertaken is not at all approved by authorities, and it does not befit our family, which is supposed to know the laws of religion and irreligion.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Son! This action of killing innocent Yakṣas is not befitting our family, and is condemned by the virtuous. Upadevānām means Yakṣas.
Killing sinless Yakṣas is not approved and doesn't befit a family that knows dharma. Family standards exist precisely for moments like this; they're guardrails, not embarrassments.
Reflection Questions
  • Which inherited standard of conduct am I drifting from in the name of personal grievance?
  • Where could honoring my family's better tradition correct my current course?
