When Kapila, who could show her the ultimate goal of the Absolute Truth, was sitting leisurely before her, Devahūti remembered the words Brahmā had spoken to her, and she therefore began to question Kapila as follows.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Devahūti, remembering the words of Brahmā, spoke to her son who was seated beyond all actions, and who could show the conclusion of the path of knowledge. Kapila could show the end of the path of truth. Brahmā had said “The Lord has entered your womb.” (SB 3.24.18)
Devahūti, with Kapila sitting before her, remembers Brahmā's words and begins her questions. Being in the right company is not enough — we must also recall the right instructions and use the moment. Memory of teaching activates the encounter.
Reflection Questions
  • When I'm with someone who could answer my deepest questions, do I bring the right questions?
  • Whose instruction should I recall before my next significant conversation?
