Brahmā, the first-born living being, went along with Marīci and other sages to the place of Kardama’s hermitage, which was surrounded by the river Sarasvatī.
Purport
Brahmā is called Svayambhū because he is not born of any material father and mother. He is the first living creature and is born from the lotus which grows from the abdomen of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu. Therefore he is called Svayambhū, self-born.

Translation
Brahmā, along the sages headed by Marīci, came to the hermitage of Kardama, which was surrounded by the Sarasvatī River.
Pariśritam means surrounded.
Personal Guidance
The verse describes a universe that is not a random stage but an arrangement with a purpose. Our work is not to engineer that purpose but to find our seat within it. The verse keeps returning to Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Reflection Questions
- Where have you been demanding outcomes from a system you did not design?
- What would humility actually look like for you in your work this week?
