This departure from Vaikuṇṭha was foretold by Lakṣmī, the goddess of fortune. She was very angry because when she left My abode and then returned, you stopped her at the gate while I was sleeping.

Translation
This was ordained long ago by angry Lakṣmī when she attempted to enter the door and was prevented by you two, since I was sleeping.
Though this verse is seen in many editions, it has no commentary because it is not traditionally accepted as a verse.

Personal Guidance
Lakṣmī foretold the gatekeepers' fall because they stopped her at the Lord's gate while He was sleeping. Mistreating the Lord's beloved consort — even out of misplaced duty — has consequences. Devotion to the Lord includes care for those He loves.
Reflection Questions
- Whom in my life am I 'gatekeeping' away from access they actually deserve?
- How do I treat the people the Lord clearly favors, when my own role makes it inconvenient?
