O lotus-eyed one, kindly bless me by fulfilling my desire. When someone in distress approaches a great person, his pleas should never go in vain.

Diti knew well that her request might be rejected because of the untimely situation, but she pleaded that when there is an emergency or a distressful condition, there is no consideration of time or situation.

Translation
O lotus eyed husband! Therefore, fulfill my auspicious desire. O great lord! A great person should not neglect one who approaches in distress. “How can you say that you are equal in character to me when you are attempting to break my trance in the evening for your own pleasure?” Because I am distressed, I approach you (ārtopasarpanām). What should I do when I am presently in such distress? You who are most merciful know the scripture which says “There should be no delay for a person suffering.”
The verse names māyā as the quiet author of our recurring disappointments. Seeing her hand at work is itself the first relief from her grip.
Reflection Questions
  • What 'if only X happens, I'll finally be fine' story are you still telling yourself?
  • Where is māyā's hand most active in your week, and how could you cooperate with reality instead?
