O descendant of Bharata, while Brahmā was observing Him, that boar became situated in the sky in a wonderful manifestation as gigantic as a great elephant.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
While Brahmā watched, the pig became situated in the sky and increased to the size of an elephant in a moment. It became most astonishing. Gaja-mātraḥ means the size of an elephant.
While Brahmā watches, the tiny boar expands in the sky to the size of a great elephant. The Lord's forms grow under sustained attention. Watching itself is a kind of devotion that allows expansion.
Reflection Questions
  • What 'small thing' would expand into something elephant-sized if I kept watching it?
  • Where am I looking away too quickly for the Lord's form to enlarge in my vision?
