The art of writing verse, paṅkti, became manifested from the bone marrow, and that of bṛhatī, another type of verse, was generated from the life-breath of the lord of the living entities.

Translation
Paṅki (40 syllables) arose from his marrow and bṛhatī meter (36 syllables) arose from his prāṇa.
Paṅkti came from bone marrow, bṛhatī from life-breath. The deepest interior and the active prāṇa both generate poetry. The most hidden and the most vital parts of us hold meters waiting to be heard.
Reflection Questions
  • What in my marrow — buried, deep, unspoken — wants to become a verse?
  • How is my breath itself shaping the rhythm of what I create?
