Pulastya was generated from the ears, Aṅgirā from the mouth, Atri from the eyes, Marīci from the mind and Pulaha from the navel of Brahmā.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Pulaha appeared from Brahmā’s navel. Pulastya was generated from his ears. The sage Aṅgirā appeared from his mouth. Atri appeared from his eyes. Marīci appeared from his mind.
Pulastya came from Brahmā's ears, Aṅgirā from mouth, Atri from eyes, Marīci from mind, Pulaha from navel. Each great sage embodies a faculty. Our faculties too can give birth to particular gifts when consecrated.
Reflection Questions
  • If my eyes, mind, mouth and ears each gave birth to a 'son,' what would each be called?
  • Which faculty am I overusing and which am I leaving unproductive?
