The ecstasy of seeing Them completely satisfied Mārkaṇḍeya’s body, mind and senses and caused the hairs on his body to stand on end and his eyes to fill with tears. Overwhelmed, Mārkaṇḍeya found it difficult to look at Them.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Mārkaṇḍeya's body, mind and senses became blissful on seeing them. His eyes filled with tears and his hairs stood on end. He could not gaze upon them. Na sehe means “he could not.”
Ecstasy completely satisfies his body, mind, and senses; his hairs stand on end, his eyes fill with tears. Real spiritual touch is full-spectrum; nothing is left wanting. We can trust that genuine encounters will satisfy what mere pleasures never could.
Reflection Questions
  • When have I tasted something even partly like this, and what did I learn from it?
  • What pseudo-satisfactions can I let go because I sense a higher kind exists?
