O brāhmaṇa, the followers of Lord Indra had impudently attacked the saintly Mārkaṇḍeya, yet he did not succumb to any influence of false ego. For great souls such tolerance is not at all surprising.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
O brāhmaṇa! Though the followers of Indra had impudently attacked the saintly Mārkaṇḍeya, he did not succumb to false ego. For great souls such tolerance is not surprising. Ahamaḥ means “of ahaṅkāra.”
Despite the attack, Markandeya does not succumb to false ego — neither anger nor pride. Great souls absorb assault without the secondary harm of becoming small in return. Equanimity is the real victory.

  • After my last conflict, did I keep my size, or did I shrink into reactivity?
  • What practice helps me stay 'large' under attack?
