Translation
Śaunaka Ṛṣi said: O gentle Sūta! Please narrate to us how Paila and the other greatly intelligent disciples of Śrīla Vyāsadeva, who are known as the authorities of Vedic wisdom, spoke and edited the Vedas.
Having heard about the saṁhitā, the sages want to know about the divisions of the Veda saṁhitās.
Personal Guidance
Saunaka now asks about the Veda's branches and how Vyasa's disciples carried them. Bhagavatam pauses to honor the careful work of transmission. Spiritual culture survives because someone stayed precise about the chain.
Reflection Questions
- Whose careful transmission have I benefited from without knowing?
- Where can I be more precise about what I pass on?
