This is the annihilation called prākṛtika, during which the energies belonging to the Supreme Person and His unmanifest material nature, disassembled by the force of time, are deprived of their potencies and merge together totally.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The annihilation is called prākṛtika when the energies belonging to the Supreme Person and prakṛti, disassembled by the force of time, merge together totally. Energies like sattva-guṇa merge into prakṛti. However the Lord and prakṛti never are affected at any time.
In prakrtika annihilation, the Lord and unmanifest nature remain — energies disassemble, but the eternal substratum does not. Something always remains. Our practice is to identify with that something rather than with what disassembles.
Reflection Questions
  • What in me feels untouched even when much around me dissolves?
  • How can I spend a little more time today aware of that unchanging witness?
