Among the Gandharvas I am Viśvāvasu, and I am Pūrvacitti among the heavenly Apsaras. I am the steadiness of mountains and the fragrant aroma of the earth.

In Bhagavad-gītā (7.9) Lord Kṛṣṇa says, puṇyo gandhaḥ pṛthivyāṁ ca: “I am the fragrance of the earth.” The original fragrance of the earth is very pleasing and represents Lord Kṛṣṇa. Although unpleasant aromas may be artificially produced, they do not represent the Lord.

Translation
Among the Gandharvas, I am Viśvāvasu, and I am Pūrvacitti among the heavenly Apsarās. I am the steadiness of mountains and the tan-mātra known as fragrance in the earth. Among Gandharvas I am Viśvāvasu, and among Apsarās I am Pūrvacitti. I am the tan-mātra called fragrance, the cause of the earth.
Among Gandharvas Viśvāvasu, among Apsaras Pūrvacitti, the steadiness of mountains and the fragrant aroma of the earth. The list now turns toward sensory qualities of nature.
Reflection Questions
  • Where do I encounter the Lord through smell or steadiness most easily?
  • What if these were daily entrances into His presence?
