Therefore, one should reject all material processes of elevation, which are like the mental creations of a dream, and should completely absorb one’s mind in Me. By constantly thinking of Me, one becomes purified.

The word bhāvitam means “caused to be.” As explained in Bhagavad-gītā, material existence is an unstable platform subject to the constant disturbances of creation and annihilation. One who absorbs his consciousness in Kṛṣṇa, however, attains to Kṛṣṇa’s nature and is therefore described as mad-bhāva-bhāvitam, or one situated in real existence because of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. The Lord here concludes His analysis of different processes of human perfection.

Translation
Therefore, one should reject impermanent desires for these processes and their results, which are like the mental creations of a dream, and should completely absorb one’s mind, filled with love by thinking of me, in me alone. Since other processes and results are just temporary desires like dream objects, one should give them up and concentrate your mind on me by pure bhakti. The topic is summarized in this verse. This is Śrīdhara Svāmī’s commentary. Absorb your mind, which is endowed with bhāva by thinking of me (mad-bhāva-bhāvitam), in me alone.
Reject material elevation processes as dream-like and absorb the mind in the Lord; constant thought of Him purifies. The verdict is sharper than it sounds.
Reflection Questions
  • Which 'material elevation' am I still investing in as if it were not dream-stuff?
  • What would full absorption look like instead?
