  • aṅghri-abhimarśanaḥ — massaging (the Lord's) feet
Compound: aṅghri (foot) + abhi + √mṛś (to touch with attention). Massaging-with-care. Gauḍīyas note: speech and touch combine — Śrutadeva delivers his stuti while his hands serve. Theology with hands.
  • su-upaviṣṭān — comfortably seated
Compound: su (well) + upaviṣṭa (seated). The Vaiṣṇava-gṛhastha's basic concern — make the guest sit well first; speak afterwards. Gauḍīyas treat āsana-dāna as the second of the sixteen upacāras.
  • kṛta-ātithyān — having shown hospitality
Compound: kṛta (done) + ātithyān (the duties of hospitality). 'Those to whom ātithya has been done.' The brāhmaṇa first completes the ritual; only then opens his mouth in praise. Order matters in bhakti.
When his guests were seated comfortably, having each received a proper welcome, Śrutadeva approached them and sat down nearby with his wife, children and other dependents. Then, while massaging the Lord’s feet, he addressed Kṛṣṇa and the sages.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
When his guests were seated comfortably, having each received a proper welcome, Śrutadeva approached them and sat down nearby with his wife, children and other dependents. Then, while massaging the Lord's feet, he addressed Kṛṣṇa and the sages.
Commentary

Being present along with his wife, his sons (sva jana), and others of the same house (apatya), he massaged the Lord’s feet.

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

He approached his guests and spoke, mainly to Kṛṣṇa. He massaged the feet of the sages.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

He seated the Lord comfortably and again worshipped him or offered fragrances for the mouth This indicates that the Lord was pleased, or that Śrutadeva was confused by prema. He gently massaged his feet.

Concepts
Jiva
With guests seated, Śrutadeva approaches and addresses them. Even a busy host stops to speak directly; presence with the Lord interrupts even the rituals around Him.
Reflection Questions
  • Do I let busy-ness around devotion interrupt direct speech to God?
  • Where could I drop the choreography and address Him directly?

Family gathered, feet touched, Bhagavān seated — the brāhmaṇa now speaks. Speech to Kṛṣṇa is service, not commentary. Śrutadeva's stuti will be the chapter's most theologically rich.
