  • jīva-īśau — the two Lords of all living entities
jīva (living entity) + īśa (Lord), dual. Both Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma. Gauḍīyas hold Balarāma as the original Saṅkarṣaṇa, equal in jīva-īśatva and inseparable from Kṛṣṇa in tattva.
  • sva-vibhūtibhiḥ — with the expansions of Their own opulences
sva (own) + vibhūti (opulence). Sons and wives as personal vibhūtis. Gauḍīyas read this as a precise doctrinal statement: the family of Bhagavān is itself His aiśvarya in embodied form.
  • bandhubhiḥ — with relatives
From √bandh (to bind). The bound ones — relatives by affection. Gauḍīyas note that bandhu, in Kṛṣṇa's context, carries the connotation of līlā-companion, not merely blood relation.
  • rejatuḥ — the two appeared brilliant
Dual perfect of √rāj. Both Lords shone. Gauḍīyas note the verb form: two-as-one in the visual register, distinct yet inseparable — the visual instance of acintya-bhedābheda between Kṛṣṇa and His first prakāśa.
At that time Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa, the Lords of all living entities, shone forth with great majesty in the company of Their respective sons, wives and other family members, who were expansions of Their opulences.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
At that time Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa, the Lords of all living entities, shone forth with great majesty in the company of Their respective sons, wives and other family members, who were expansions of Their opulences.
Commentary

The lords of all jivas (jivesau), Krsna and Balarama appeared.

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

The two lords of the living entities (jīvīśau), like princes or controllers of the population, shone with their intimate expansions -with their cousins (sva-bandhubhiḥ), with their wives, and with their sons who were non-different from themselves in form and qualities (sva-sutaiḥ). They were part of themselves. Or, the two were, in their expansions as Paramātmā, the antaryāmīs of all the jīvas. It is said in the Eleventh canto: kālo māyā-maye jīve jīva ātmani mayy aje: time merges into Saṅkarṣaṇa, and he merges into me. (SB 11.24.27) The Lord is superior to antaryāmī. He is Svayam Bhagavān.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, equally prominent (ca ca), were surrounded by their intimate friends the cowherds or by relavites, the Yadus and friends, Nanda and others. The wives (dāraiḥ) were naturally theirs eternally. Thus the word sva is not necessary for them. Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma were the lords of the jīvas. They were accompanied by their vibhūtis. Or they had the Kaustubha, makara earrings, etc. (sva-vibhūtibhiḥ). The list of persons accompanying the two brothers is in order of increasing proximity.

Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa shine with great majesty in the assembly. Where God is present, His glory becomes visible — not by His effort but by His nature. He cannot help radiating.
Reflection Questions
  • Where do I see God shining in human gatherings, and where do I miss it?
  • How do I make space for God's natural radiance rather than trying to manufacture it?

Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa, accompanied by Their own sons, wives, and family-members — Their vibhūtis given personal form — shine in the assembly as the sun in his retinue of seven horses. The verse insists that Bhagavān's family is not incidental; it is His own opulence rendered as people.
