  • āyuḥ — long life
Same word as in v.30. The Lord is enumerating the items of the sages' vow — addressing each one directly, item by item. The atonement is being negotiated as a contract.
  • sattvam — strength / stamina
From √as (to be). Pure being-force, often translated 'vital strength.' The second item to be replaced. Yoga-māyā can produce sattva by transference.
  • indriyam — sensory power
From indra. The senses' power. The third item. With this, all three items of the vow (āyuḥ, sattva, indriyam) match v.30's āyuḥ + ātma-aklamam — the Lord adds indriya for completeness.
  • yoga-māyayā — by My yoga-māyā
Yoga + māyā. The Lord's intrinsic śakti — not māyā in the bondage-sense, but His own potency. Gauḍīyas distinguish yoga-māyā (līlā-arranging) from mahā-māyā (jīva-binding). Balarāma works through the former.
  • sādhaye — I will accomplish
Causative-future of √sādh. 'I will bring to completion.' The Lord uses the verb of siddhi — what He pledges will be siddha, accomplished beyond doubt.
O sages, just say the word, and by My mystic power I shall restore everything you promised him — long life, strength and sensory power.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
O sages, just say the word, and by My mystic power I shall restore everything you promised him-long life, strength and sensory power.
Commentary

Since the brahmanas are my mouth, I should not do anything which will break your promise. Speak so that I can follow your instructions. Ask for long life, strength (sattvam) or sharpness of the senses.

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

By my acintya-śakti I can do everything you asked.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Even (eva) sensory powers and proper conduct (ca) will be restored. By my special powers (yoga-māyayā) I can do everything you asked.

Yoga
'I shall restore what you promised him — long life, strength, sensory power.' The Lord offers full restitution; nothing of what was promised need be lost. Repair is generous, not stingy.
Reflection Questions
  • Where do I make stingy repair when generous restitution is possible?
  • What promise of mine deserves full, not partial, fulfillment?

Balarāma offers, by His yoga-māyā, to restore exactly what the sages had pledged: long life, strength, sensory power. The currency of the vow can be transferred; only the recipient must change. The Lord rewrites the ledger, sages keep their word, śāstra keeps its hold.
