  • sva-bodhaḥ — full in His own knowledge
Compound: sva (His own, intrinsic) + bodha (knowledge). The verse plants the doctrinal anchor: Kṛṣṇa is by nature sva-bodha. Whatever appearance of forgetfulness shows next is play, not metaphysical lapse.
  • sva-jana-anuṣaṅgataḥ — from attachment to His own people
Compound: sva-jana (one's own people) + anuṣaṅga (attachment, association). Gauḍīyas read this as the technical word for Bhagavān's deliberate sneha-ābhāsa — He becomes "attached" only because He has consented to be Vasudeva's son.
  • āsurīm māyām — demonic illusion
Phrase: āsurī (demonic) + māyā (illusion). The Bhāgavatam carefully distinguishes asurī-māyā (Maya Dānava's) from yoga-māyā (Kṛṣṇa's). One conceals to mislead, the other conceals to invite deeper love.
  • maya-uditām — engineered by Maya
Compound: maya (the asura-architect Maya Dānava) + udita (issued, produced). Maya is the legendary builder of the Pāṇḍavas' assembly hall and now of Śālva's Saubha — the same craftsman who serves whichever side hires him.
By nature Lord Kṛṣṇa is full in knowledge, and He possesses unlimited powers of perception. Yet for a moment, out of great affection for His loved ones, He remained absorbed in the mood of an ordinary human being. He soon recalled, however, that this was all a demoniac illusion engineered by Maya Dānava and employed by Śālva.

Translation
By nature Lord Kṛṣṇa is full in knowledge, and He possesses unlimited powers of perception. Yet for a moment, out of great affection for His loved ones, He remained absorbed in the mood of an ordinary human being. He soon recalled, however, that this was all a demoniac illusion engineered by Maya Dānava and employed by Śālva.
Commentary

Krsna remained overcome (upaplutah) with the sentiments of an ordinary human (prakrtiau) but then because of his great powers (mahanubhavah) understood that it was a demonic illusion created by Mayadanava and used by Salva

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Śālva cut off his head and took it away because it was only an illusion created by Śālva. How did he get this power? It was taught by Maya.

Related verses
For a moment, out of affection, Kṛṣṇa stayed absorbed in human grief; then He recalled this was Maya's demoniac illusion. Even great clarity has moments of being caught — the recovery, not the avoidance, is the test.
Reflection Questions
  • What helps me 'recall' that an apparent disaster is part of an illusion?
  • Where might I cultivate the practice of remembering, not pre-emptively distancing?

By nature full in knowledge, possessing unlimited perception, Kṛṣṇa lets Himself be absorbed in the human mood for a moment out of great affection for His own — then He recalls that the whole thing is Maya Dānava's design, employed by Śālva. The Lord's "realization" is staged just long enough to honor the role of son and not a second longer.
