Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.71.40
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
pitṛ - svasuḥ
—
of His father's sister
Father's sister — Kuntī, sister of Vasudeva. Kṛṣṇa bows to her first by precise kinship rule. The Bhāgavata records relationship-vocabulary as carefully as it records names.
-
kṛṣṇayā
—
by Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī)
Draupadī's name is the feminine of Kṛṣṇa's own. The pun is meaningful: she is sometimes called Kṛṣṇā precisely because she belongs so completely to Kṛṣṇa (cf. 1.15.15, where He saves her in the dyūta-sabhā).
-
bhaginyā
—
by His sister (Subhadrā)
Subhadrā — Kṛṣṇa's sister, now Arjuna's wife. The verse weaves Vraja-Dvārakā-Hastināpura into one household; Subhadrā is the human hinge between Yadu and Pāṇḍava families.
Śrīla Prabhupāda writes: “Lord Kṛṣṇa delightfully offered His respects and obeisances to Kuntī and other elderly ladies of the palace. His younger sister, Subhadrā, was also standing there with Draupadī, and both offered their respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of the Lord.”
Draupadi (krsnya) and Subhadra then welcomed Krsna.
Thought they could not complete the worship because of confusion due to joy, Kṛṣṇa took the worship as complete and then continued with other actions. O Parīkṣit! It is fortunate that you have been born in such a family.
Seeing that others, confused out of joy, could not greet each other properly, he also did not observe the rules. He offered respects to the wives of his elders. This did not include Draupadī, but the other wives of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīma. Or it means the wives of the priests. Kṛṣṇa who attracted all hearts even in following protocol, greeted them. O Parīkṣit! It is fortunate that you have been born in such a family. Or Kṛṣṇa shone because of his manifest qualities or because he shed tears of prema.
- Where is mutual respect missing in my family architecture?
- What small gesture of bowing could restore something?
Kṛṣṇa bowing to His aunt and the elder wives while Draupadī and Subhadrā bow to Him is like an orchard exchanging fruit and shade — each branch gives what it has and receives what the other holds, all under one root.
