Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.70.35
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
akutaḥ-bhayam
—
fear from nowhere, complete fearlessness
A-kutaḥ-bhaya — literally 'no-fear-from-anywhere.' One of the highest Bhāgavata epithets for the state induced by saintly presence. Mere proximity to Nārada (and hence to the kṛṣṇa-kathā he carries) produces it.
-
bhagavataḥ
—
of the powerful personality
Bhagavān addresses Nārada as bhagavataḥ — using the same term applied to Himself. The Gauḍīya tradition takes this seriously: the great devotee shares in Bhagavān's quality (cf. SB 3.25.38 — sādhavo hṛdayaṁ mahyam).
-
lokānām trayāṇām
—
of the three worlds
Three worlds — bhū, bhuvas, svar. Nārada's wandering covers all of them, and a single sage's arrival benefits the cosmos in its entirety. Bhakti's reach is not local.
-
paryaṭataḥ
—
of one who travels everywhere
Paryaṭ — wandering completely. Nārada's signature mode: he is never settled, always carrying nāma and kathā between worlds. The Gauḍīya parivrājaka-ideal traces to him.
I am asking you about the welfare of all the people of the worlds since it is improper to ask about your welfare, it being impossible that you could have any misfortune. "Are the three worlds free from fear now a days?" "Well, how should I know this?" "Your great quality is that you wander everywhere. Since from you knowledge of all the worlds can be obtained, I ask you."
Api svit indicates a question. Everyone in the universe is free of fear. You wander about to benefit us since you are the Lord (īśvara-karṭriṣu). This is stated in the next verse. Nanu indicates conjecture or certainty. He calls Nārada bhagavān out of great respect. This quality of fearlessness should arise from you who wander throughout the universe. Or, “How do I know about this?” Your influence (guṇaḥ) is everywhere since wander in all places.
- Whose presence in my life lowers my fear simply by their being there?
- How can I be that kind of presence for others?
Nārada's mere arrival has made the three worlds fearless — like a fragrance that signals the entry of a beloved guest into the house, freeing the air. Bhagavān names this fact aloud; bhakti is honoured by Bhagavān before it can be honoured by anyone else.
