  • hala - āyudhaḥ — Lord Balarāma, whose weapon is a plough
Halāyudha — Balarāma's distinctive epithet. Hala = plough; āyudha = weapon. No other deity bears this title. It marks Him as the cowherd-Lord whose tool is also His weapon.
  • anurakta - cetasaḥ — whose hearts were attached (to Him)
Anurakta = loving attachment; cetas = heart-mind. The Yadus' hearts are described as bound to Balarāma in anurāga — the standard Gauḍīya word for the devotee's loving attachment.
  • kuruṣu-sva-ceṣṭitam — His own action among the Kurus
Ceṣṭita = activity, deeds. Balarāma's account of His deeds among the Kurus becomes the Bhāgavata's own record — chapter 68 is, in a sense, that very report retold.
Then Lord Halāyudha entered His city [Dvārakā] and met His relatives, whose hearts were all bound to Him in loving attachment. In the assembly hall He reported to the Yadu leaders everything about His dealings with the Kurus.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Then Lord Halāyudha entered His city [Dvārakā] and met His relatives, whose hearts were all bound to Him in loving attachment. In the assembly hall He reported to the Yadu leaders everything about His dealings with the Kurus.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

He entered his own city magnificently (pra—viṣṭaḥ), with singing and auspicious music and met his friends Kṛṣṇa, Vasudeva and others because of anurāga always watched the road for his return (anurakta-cetasaḥ). Among the leaders of the Yadus like Ugrasena, he told them all his actions in the assembly in order to give them joy. However, he told only a little about the Kurus’ bad words.

Returning to Dvārakā, Balarāma reported everything to the Yadu leaders. Devotee community requires honest reporting of what happened — successes, struggles, and how the Lord acted in between.
Reflection Questions
  • Do I share what happens in my spiritual life with my community, or keep it private?
  • What story from this week would I want to tell honestly to those who care?

He who carries the plough returns to His city; relatives gather to hear the news; the elder reports the journey from start to finish — like a captain returning to a council, plain-spoken, holding back nothing.
