  • parisāntvitā — fully pacified
Past participle of pari + √sāntv. The intensifying prefix pari- marks completeness — not merely consoled but wholly pacified. The Lord's consolation reaches every corner her grief reached.
  • parihāsa-uktim — (His) words spoken in jest
Compound: parihāsa (joke) + ukti (speech). She now classifies His earlier speech correctly — as parihāsa. Gauḍīyas read this re-classification as the kind of vivekapūrṇa-jñāna that prema generates: she sees Him rightly.
  • priya-tyāga-bhayam — fear of rejection by her beloved
Compound: priya (beloved) + tyāga (abandonment) + bhaya (fear). The single fear of the mādhurya-bhakta — being abandoned by the Beloved. She gave it up: the verse uses the verb jahau, an emphatic 'left behind.'
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O King, Queen Vaidarbhī was fully pacified by the Supreme Personality of Godhead and understood that His words had been spoken in jest. Thus she gave up her fear that her beloved would reject her.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: O King, Queen Vaidarbhī was fully pacified by the Supreme Personality of Godhead and understood that His words had been spoken in jest. Thus she gave up her fear that her beloved would reject her.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Rukmiṇī had come from Vidarbha because of her great attraction to him (vaidarbhī). She gave up fear that he would reject her.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

She was pacified by the Lord endowed with all powers (bhagavatā). She became completely peaceful because she, though a young girl, had given up everything for him. Or she was capable of understanding the truth, since she was most intelligent (vaidarbhī). She understood his statements were jokes. She gave up fear that he would give her up. But he was bhagavān. Or the reason she gave up fear was that she was Vaidarbhī, not a person of Mithilā. It was possible for a person of her birth. “She should not trust him.” As Rāma he showed proper dharma and now it was not possible to go against his word, since he manifested all good qualities such as affection for the devotee. O king! She developed fear because his words. Why have trust in the words of anyone else?

Reflection Questions
  • Where do you need to receive an explanation that has actually been offered?
  • How does giving up fear of rejection follow honest dialogue?

A storm clears as suddenly as it came; the sky is bluer than before. Rukmiṇī, fully consoled, drops the fear of priya-tyāga — being abandoned by her beloved — and the chapter pivots from her trembling silence to her radiant speech.
