Important Words
-
nūnam
—
certainly, surely
Adverb of confident inference. Balarāma's tone in the verse: assured, decisive. Gauḍīya tradition associates Balarāma with the buddhi-aspect of Bhagavān's līlā — He supplies the clarity Kṛṣṇa wants supplied.
-
kasmiṁścit puruṣe
—
with some particular person
Indefinite pronoun kasmiṁścit (locative) + puruṣa (person). The verse names no name yet; the inference is structural. Bhāgavata builds suspense even while Bhagavān internally already knows.
-
nyastaḥ
—
deposited, entrusted
Past participle of ni-√as — repeating the verb from verse 18 where Śatadhanvā made the deposit. The narrative reuses the technical term to close the inferential loop. Gauḍīyas observe Bhāgavata's word-economy: the same verb opens the question and answers it.
-
anveṣa
—
search out
Imperative of anu-√iṣ. Balarāma instructs Kṛṣṇa to investigate — the brother who can give instructions to the Supreme is one of the Bhāgavata's structural marvels. Gauḍīyas frame this as Kṛṣṇa's consent to be junior in certain rasas.
To this Lord Balarāma replied, “Indeed, Śatadhanvā must have placed the jewel in the care of someone. You should return to Our city and find that person.

Translation
To this Lord Balarāma replied, "Indeed, Śatadhanvā must have placed the jewel in the care of someone. You should return to Our city and find that person.

Commentary
Balarāma speaks with affectionate anger. He speculated that Akrūra must have it since he was qualified for it. “Search for him.”
Śrīdhara Svāmī
Gauḍīya
Commentary
After that (tataḥ), after a few moments, because he was fooled by the Lord who favored Akrūra, he spoke with great intelligence. He was internally angry, with strong affection (balaḥ) for Kṛṣṇa. Probably (nūnam) the jewel was left with some person, some devotee of yours. He speaks out of angry affection.

Personal Guidance
Balarāma replies: Śatadhanvā must have placed it with someone; return to the city and find that person. Each step that 'fails' yields the next clue; the elder brother reads next move from current data.
Reflection Questions
- Where do you treat a failed step as ending the project when it might be data?
- Whose 'elder brother' wisdom could read the next step?
Analogy
Balarāma reads the situation cleanly: a man fleeing for his life will deposit valuables along the way. Bhagavān's elder brother contributes the deductive step — Gauḍīyas read these joint deliberations as the rasa of sakhya layered onto kinship.
