Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.56.43
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
vyavasitaḥ buddhyā
—
fixing determination by intelligence
Compound idea: vyavasita (resolved) + buddhi (intelligence, instrumental). The same vyavasāya the Gītā praises (BG 2.41) — vyavasāyātmikā buddhiḥ. Satrājit finally exhibits the Gītā-class resolution. Late, but accepted.
-
śubhām
—
fair, auspicious
Accusative of śubhā. The daughter's auspiciousness is named — she is herself a mūrti of śubhā. Gauḍīya: the gift to the Lord must be śubhā, the best one has.
-
upajahāra ha
—
presented
Same verb as in v.32 (Jāmbavān giving Jāmbavatī). The Bhāgavatam uses identical diction for both fathers — bear-king and Yadu-king — equalising their gift before the Lord.
The chief result of this arrangement of pastimes is now described. Deciding on this method, he made preparations to give his most excellent daughter, by requesting Vasudeva and others and then offered her to Kṛṣṇa. Sometimes saḥ is seen instead of ha.
He determined that he would give his daughter, most excellent (śubhām), to Kṛṣṇa. He went personally (svayam) to Vasudeva and others and made the request humbly since he was related to them, or because he had the jewel. Because he did not make the request of her marriage to Kṛṣṇa, he was a great offender.
- Where do you delegate reparation work that should be personally done?
- What 'personal arrangement' is yours to make this week?
Satrājit has worked out the answer himself — and now performs the same action with which the chapter opened, but freely. Verse 1 was atonement under duress; v.43 is atonement chosen. The Bhāgavatam loves these mirror-pairs: same act, transformed motive.
