  • gauhyaka-gāndharva-paiśāca-uraga-rākṣasīḥ — weapons of the Guhyakas, Gandharvas, witches, celestial serpents, and Rākṣasas
Compound listing five classes of supernatural beings, each with its own mantra-lineage. The Bhāgavatam exhibits the breadth of demonic resources; the line itself is exhausting to read, mirroring the assault.
  • śataśaḥ — hundreds
Distributive adverb — 'by the hundreds.' Echoes v.14's māyā-śata-vidam ('knower of a hundred māyās'). The promised hundred now arrives; Pradyumna's promised response — Mahā-māyā — handles them all.
  • vyadhamayat — struck them all down
Causative imperfect of vi-√dhmā (to blow away, scatter). The Lord's son does not meet each missile with a counter-missile; He scatters them. Mahā-māyā functions categorically, not item-by-item.
  • kārṣṇiḥ — Lord Pradyumna, son of Kṛṣṇa
Reverts from raukmiṇeyaḥ (v.22) back to kārṣṇiḥ — now that Mahā-māyā is operational, the Lord's son resumes acting as the Lord's son, with paternal authority over demonic forces. Naming tracks the bhāva.
The demon then unleashed hundreds of mystic weapons belonging to the Guhyakas, Gandharvas, Piśācas, Uragas and Rākṣasas, but Lord Kārṣṇi, Pradyumna, struck them all down.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The demon then unleashed hundreds of mystic weapons belonging to the Guhyakas, Gandharvas, Piśācas, Uragas and Rākṣasas, but Lord Kārṣṇi, Pradyumna, struck them all down.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

The weapons are not feminine in gender. However to indicate the influence of māyā on them the ending of the compound is feminine (rākṣasīḥ). He used these weapons hundreds of times. Or he even used other māyā techniques hundreds of times. tato māyāṁ parāṁ cakre deva-śatruḥ pratāpavān // siṁhān vyāghrān varāhāṁś ca tarakṣūn ṛkṣa-vānarān vāraṇān vārida prakhyān hayān uṣṭrān viśāṁ pate Powerful Śambara used his powerful māyā, creating lions, tigers, boars, hyenas, bears, monkeys, elephants, clouds, horses and camels. The weapons were in order of ability to accomplish the task using violence (from Guhayak weapons to Rākṣasa weapons). Pradyumna countered them successively because he was the son of Kṛṣṇa.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Śambara used many of each type of demon’s weapons listed. Or he used their many illusions. tato māyāṁ parāṁ cakre deva-śatruḥ pratāpavān // siṁhān vyāghrān varāhāṁś ca tarakṣūn ṛkṣa-vānarān vāraṇān vārida prakhyān hayān uṣṭrān viśāṁ pate Powerful Śambara used his powerful māyā, creating lions, tigers, boars, hyenas, bears, monkeys, elephants, clouds, horses and camels. The weapons were in order of ability to accomplish the task using violence (from Guhayak weapons to Rākṣasa weapons). Sma means it is well known. Pradyumna countered them all successively because he was the son of Kṛṣṇa.

Śambara unleashes hundreds of mystic weapons of Guhyakas, Gandharvas, Piśācas, Uragas, Rākṣasas; Kārṣṇi strikes them all down. When a demon empties the entire arsenal of dark beings, the hero still strikes them all down.
Reflection Questions
  • What full arsenal has been emptied against you that you have nonetheless survived?
  • Where did Mahā-māyā quietly cover what you didn't know you needed?

Śambara empties his arsenal — Guhyaka weapons, Gandharva spells, Piśāca curses, Uraga snake-missiles, Rākṣasa charms — and Pradyumna strikes them all down. A roll-call of every illusion-class the universe has on offer; the Lord's son does not catalog, He simply dispatches.
