  • satya - vacanam — words of assurance / true word
Compound: satya (truth) + vacana (speech). One of Bhagavān's six opulences in Gauḍīya theology — He is sva-bhāvataḥ satya-saṅkalpa, His vow is the fact. Caitanya-caritāmṛta cites this property as a sign of Bhagavattā.
  • ātma - upanayanam — His marriage with her (literally: bringing her near to Himself)
Compound: ātma (self) + upanayana (leading near). The same word as the upanayana-saṁskāra, where the brāhmaṇa-child is led to the guru. Gauḍīyas note the resonance: marriage to Kṛṣṇa is being led near to the ātmā of all selves.
  • yadu - nandanam — Kṛṣṇa, the child of the Yadus
Compound: Yadu + nandana (delighter, child). Echoes verse 1. The brāhmaṇa names Him by His dynastic-sweet name — bringing Rukmiṇī into the family that Kṛṣṇa has chosen to inhabit.
The brāhmaṇa announced to her the arrival of Lord Yadunandana and relayed the Lord’s promise to marry her.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The brāhmaṇa announced to her the arrival of Lord Yadunandana and relayed the Lord's promise to marry her.
Commentary

He described to her his meeting with Krsna. He described how Krsna had promised to come to her, relating his words such as "I will bring Rukmini." (sb 10.153.3)

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

He announced that he had met Kṛṣṇa, who gives joy to the Yadus (yadu-nandanam). Rukmiṇī praised him. Or, the brāhmaṇa announced he had met Kṛṣṇa, that Kṛṣṇa had come and what he said, and praised (śaśamṣa) Kṛṣṇa. Or the brāhmaṇa described (śaśaṁsa) Kṛṣṇa, that he had come, and what he said.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Kṛṣṇa who gives joy to the Yadus indicates that all the Yadus also came. The Lord had promised (satya-vacanam) to take her. He announced what he said to (prati) Kṛṣṇa (yadu-nandanam) and his promise to take her close to him (upanayanam). .

The brāhmaṇa announces the Lord's arrival and relays His promise to marry her. The message is two-part: He is here; He will do what He said.
Reflection Questions
  • What two-part message from the Lord do you need to hear today — He is here, He will keep His word?
  • Where could you trust both halves?

A satya-vacana is an arrow already in flight — once Kṛṣṇa has promised, the marriage has in some sense already happened, even though the bride still stands inside the inner chamber. Bhagavān's word and Bhagavān's deed do not differ in time.

Prahlāda's pillar

When Prahlāda said 'My Lord is everywhere, even in this pillar,' Hiraṇyakaśipu broke the pillar in mockery — and Nṛsiṁha emerged. The boy's word was Kṛṣṇa's deed.

Gauḍīyas read 10.53.30 the same way: Kṛṣṇa's satya-vacana to marry Rukmiṇī is itself the marriage. The chariot ride is mere unfolding of a vow already enacted.
