Important Words
-
śarat
—
autumn
The classical season-name. Śarat is Vraja's rāsa-season — chapters 29–33 of this canto. The whole second half of this chapter is structurally a prelude to the rāsa-līlā. Gauḍīyas read it as such.
-
rāma-keśavayoḥ
—
of Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa
Dvandva genitive dual. Keśava — the Lord of beautiful hair, or the slayer of Keśī, or He who has Brahmā and Śiva as His Ka and Īśa. Gauḍīyas treasure Keśava as a Vraja-specific name (the Keśī-slaying is Vraja-līlā).
-
svaccha-ambu
—
with clear water
Compound: svaccha (clear, transparent) + ambu (water). The water that has settled. Gauḍīyas note: a settled mind is svaccha — Kṛṣṇa is seen in it as in autumn-clear water.
-
aparuṣa-anilā
—
with gentle wind
Compound: a-paruṣa (not harsh) + anila (wind). Vraja's autumn wind is mild. Gauḍīyas read this as the wind that will, soon, carry the flute-sound to the gopīs' houses.
-
vyabhrā
—
cloudless
Vy + abhra (cloud). Without clouds. The contrast with the chapter's opening is deliberate: from sky-covered-by-clouds to sky-cleared. Kṛṣṇa has not changed; the sky has.
While Lord Rāma and Lord Keśava were thus dwelling in Vṛndāvana, the fall season arrived, when the sky is cloudless, the water clear and the wind gentle.

Translation
While Lord Rāma and Lord Keśava were thus dwelling in Vṛndāvana, the fall season arrived, when the sky is cloudless, the water clear and the wind gentle.
Commentary
Here begins the description of the autumn season in eight verses. In the autumn season the water became clear, the wind became peaceful.

Commentary
Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma lived with great attachment (ni—vasatoḥ) in Vraja, with special pastimes in the monsoon season. Autumn then made its appearance with special treasures (sam—abhavat).

Personal Guidance
Rāma and Keśava dwell in Vṛndāvana as fall arrives — cloudless sky, clear water, gentle wind. Seasons turn; even the rainy intensity passes. Sweetness has its own quieter movement in clarity and calm.
Reflection Questions
- What 'fall' is arriving in my life after a recent intense season?
- Am I rushing to refill the calm, or letting it teach me its different sweetness?
Analogy
The autumn arrives — cloudless sky, clear water, soft wind — and the Vraja-stage is reset for the rāsa to come. The chapter has been moving toward this. After the rain has done its long descriptive work, the season turns crystalline, and Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma keep dwelling in Vraja under a different sky.
