Bhagavad-gītā 2.65
Blended reading (Sanskrit + English inline)
-
prasāde
—
in serenity
Locative of prasāda. *In the state of prasāda* — the gift of clear settled grace from the Lord. The verse's beginning continues from verse 64; the gift, once given, produces a cascade.
-
sarva - duḥkhānām
—
of all sufferings
Genitive plural — *of all the sufferings*. The threefold misery of the body, the elements, and the higher powers. All three diminish — not by separate attack on each but by the single grace of prasāda.
-
hāniḥ
—
loss, diminution
From √hā — to abandon. The miseries *are abandoned* — not by the practitioner but by themselves, as a consequence of the prasāda. They lose their grip.
-
prasanna - cetasaḥ
—
of one of pleased consciousness
Compound — *whose mind is pleased and clear*. Prasanna and prasāda share the root; the inner state and the divine gift are linguistically continuous. One produces the other; one names the other from the inside.
-
āśu
—
quickly
Adverbial — *swiftly*. The buddhi establishes itself *quickly* once prasāda is present. Without prasāda, no amount of striving fixes the buddhi (verse 60 is the contrast); with prasāda, it is rapid.

The intelligence is fixed in its desired goal completely (pari avatisthati). All distress is destroyed, but because of no desire for enjoying the objects, the person, accepting necessary objects of the senses for his survival, has tranquility. He has a peaceful consciousness (prasanna-cetasaḥ), just because of bhakti. The First Canto of Bhāgavatam states that, without bhakti, one cannot have a peaceful mind. [Note: This is probably Bhāgavatam 1.2.20] Vyāsadeva, even though writing the Vedānta-sūtras, did not have happiness of mind, but he gained peace of heart through bhakti taught by Nārada.
What happens after he attains a pure mind? When the mind of the yogī is pure, there will arise destruction of all distresses caused by contact with matter. The intelligence of that person whose mind is peaceful (prasanna cetasā), which is directed towards his own ātmā, then remains fixed (paryavatiṣṭhate).
Result of achieving the Lord’s mercy

- Treat tranquillity as the soil in which firm intelligence grows — protect it.
- Notice when external chaos is being matched by inner chaos and break the mirroring.
- End each day in quietness so that the next day's intelligence has a foundation.
- What sorrows of mine have not been destroyed because tranquillity has not been established?
- Where could I create more tranquillity to allow buddhi to firm up?
A traveler who has reached a clear lake at sunset feels the heat of the long day lift in a single breath. Prasāda — once tasted — dissolves the threefold misery as the lake dissolves the day's dust. Prasanna-cetasaḥ: the mind becomes pristine; the buddhi swiftly establishes itself.
