atha aparasāḥ –
[atha aparasaah –]
kṛṣṇa-tat-pratipakṣaś ced viṣayāśrayatāṁ gatāḥ |
[krishna-tat-pratipakshash ched vishayaashrayataam gataah |]
hāsādīnāṁ tadā te ’tra prājñair aparasā matāḥ ||38||
[haasaadeenaam tadaa te ’tra praajnair aparasaa mataah ||38||]

If Kṛṣṇa becomes the viṣaya and His enemies become the āśraya of hāsya and other secondary rasas, [Note: The enemies of Kṛṣṇa can not be the āśraya for the primary rasas, because they would no longer be enemies.] it is called aparasa by the wise.
