Rāga: That sneha which turns sorrow into happiness by a slight appearance of Kṛṣṇa is called rāga. In this state of rāga, the devotee will do anything for the pleasure of Kṛṣṇa, even giving up his life.

When affection is symptomized by direct happiness and distress, it is called attraction. In such an attracted state of ecstatic love, one can face all kinds of disadvantages calmly. Even at the risk of death such a devotee is never bereft of the transcendental loving service of the Lord.

Commentary

Sneha becomes rāga. How does it do so? When sneha causes sorrow to become happiness by just a moment’s association with Kṛṣṇa, either through His direct presence, through internal manifestation or by a show of mercy, it is called rāga. And in that state, he will do anything, even giving up his life, for pleasing the Lord. But without that relationship to Kṛṣṇa, any happiness becomes sorrow. That is the nature of sneha.
