Set in Utah County against the Wasatch mountains, this ISKCON temple grew from the efforts of Charu Das (born Christopher Warden), a devotee of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who first came to the area through Brigham Young University in 1975 and settled in Spanish Fork in 1983. A groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1996, and construction of the temple itself began on 16 February 1998. Though modest in scale compared to some other ISKCON temples, it has become widely known well beyond the local Hindu community for its annual Holi Festival of Colors each spring, which draws large crowds of visitors of all backgrounds and is described as the largest such celebration in the Western Hemisphere — a striking example of an ISKCON temple’s public festival becoming a mainstream regional cultural event in an area with a comparatively small resident Hindu population.
