Mayapur is revered as the birthplace region of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (the 15th-16th century Bengali saint central to Gaudiya Vaishnavism), with the Yogapith temple marking his traditional birthsite established by Bhaktivinoda Thakur in the 1880s. Mayapur is ISKCON’s designated world headquarters, home to the existing Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir and Srila Prabhupada’s Pushpa Samadhi Mandir, and the site of the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium (TOVP) — a vast domed temple, under construction since 2009 and planned for completion around 2027, intended on completion to be among the largest religious monuments in the world and chaired by project leader Alfred Brush Ford (Ambarish Das).

  • historical record: Cross-checked against Wikipedia's Mayapur and Temple of the Vedic Planetarium articles during authoring: confirms Bhaktivinoda Thakur's 1880s Yogapith temple, ISKCON headquarters status, and TOVP construction beginning 2009 with planned 2027 completion.

For review

  • The flagship Temple of the Vedic Planetarium building is still under construction (planned completion c. 2027); the site is already an active pilgrimage destination via its existing temples (Chandrodaya Mandir, Prabhupada's samadhi).
