The Shree Veeraboga Emperumal Temple in Tongaat’s Tongaat Section traces its own origin to 1914, when a gathering of the local Tamil Hindu community read the Shree Veeraboga Vasantharaayar Sarithuram, a text described as containing “Prophecies of the Kali Yuga,” under a banyan tree at the site. That reading led directly to the founding of an associated religious organization, the Shree Veeraboga Vasantharaayar Dharamah Pareepaluna Mudam, and eventually to a permanent temple dedicated to Vishnu under the name Veeraboga Emperumal (“Emperumal” being a common Tamil honorific for Vishnu). The original temple building was a modest wood-and-iron structure, later rebuilt on the same site in what came to be known as the “Gandhi & Company” building.
Like many of the Tamil Vaishnava and Shaiva institutions that grew up among indentured and free Indian communities on South Africa’s Natal coast from the late nineteenth century onward, the temple has broadened its role over the decades beyond worship alone: it today also operates a Cultural Centre and a Peace & Skills Training Centre, reflecting the way such temples have long served as community anchors for Tongaat’s Hindu population beyond strictly religious functions.

- historical record: Cross-checked against the temple's own website (svet.org.za): confirms the temple's origin in 1914, when the Shree Veeraboga Vasantharaayar Sarithuram ('Prophecies of Kali Yuga') was read under a banyan tree in Tongaat Section, leading to the founding of the Shree Veeraboga Vasantharaayar Dharamah Pareepaluna Mudam organization; a first wooden-and-iron temple structure on the site, later replaced by the 'Gandhi & Company' building; and the institution's present-day operation of a Cultural Centre and a Peace & Skills Training Centre alongside the temple.
- historical record: Cross-checked against Wikipedia's 'OThongathi' (Tongaat) article, which lists the Shree Veeraboga Emperumal Temple among the town's Hindu religious institutions and cites the same svet.org.za site.

- The precise identity/iconographic form of 'Veeraboga Emperumal' (an epithet of Vishnu/Perumal) and the exact present-day street address were not independently confirmed beyond the temple's own website; no independent (non-temple-affiliated) source was found this pass.
