Location
Open in Google MapsBuilt on 19 November 1801 by local residents Laxman Vithu and Deubai Patil, this modest neighborhood shrine has grown into one of Mumbai’s most visited and wealthiest temples, drawing devotees from across India (and, on Tuesdays especially, large queues). It is administered by a public trust whose annual donations have run into the tens of millions of rupees, making it one of the richest temple trusts in the city; a 2004-06 Bombay High Court review examined the trust’s fund management and set guidelines still referenced in its governance today.
