Location
Open in Google MapsStanding on Banjara Hills in central Hyderabad, the Hare Krishna Golden Temple was inaugurated in 2018 by then Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu and is described as the first Golden Temple built in Telangana. The complex is marked by a 50-foot gold-plated dhwaja stambha (flagstaff), a 4,600-square-foot Maha Mandapam, and a five-tier gold-plated Rajagopuram entrance tower, alongside a Japa Mantapa with 108 steps for chanting. Four shrines house its presiding deities: a swayambhu (self-manifest) Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Sri Sri Radha-Govinda, a swayambhu form of Shiva as Panchajanyeshwara Swamy, and Hanuman as Japa Anjaneya Swamy. The temple, run by the HKM Hyderabad charitable society within the wider Hare Krishna movement founded by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, also preserves a Shaligram shila said to have been found in the Gandaki River near Muktinath, Nepal, and supports Akshaya Patra-linked free food distribution.
Separately, in the wider Hyderabad region, ISKCON proper also runs a Krishna-Balarama temple and goshala at Dabilpur village near Medchal, home to some 150 cows and organic farming, and visited annually by thousands of devotees — distinct from both this Banjara Hills temple and from Hyderabad’s well-known Birla Mandir.
Sources
- historical record: Cross-checked against Wikipedia's Hare Krishna Golden Temple article during authoring: confirms location (Banjara Hills, Hyderabad; coordinates 17°24'40"N 78°25'47"E), 2018 inauguration by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, description as the first Golden Temple built in Telangana, architectural features (50-foot gold-plated dhwaja stambha, 4,600 sq ft Maha Mandapam, five-tier golden Rajagopuram, 108-step Japa Mantapa), the four shrines (Swayambhu Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Sri Sri Radha-Govinda, Swayambhu Panchajanyeshwara Swamy/Shiva, and Japa Anjaneya Swamy/Hanuman), operation by the 'HKM Hyderabad' charitable society, a Shaligram shila said to be from the Gandaki River near Muktinath, Nepal, and Akshaya Patra-linked food distribution.
- historical record: Cross-checked against Wikipedia's Medchal article: confirms 'ISKCON runs a temple of Krishna and his older brother Balarama in the Dabilpur village, near Medchal which is visited annually by thousands of devotees,' with a goshala of about 150 cows and organic farming — a separate, unambiguously ISKCON-run temple in the wider Hyderabad region.
For review
- This temple is operated by 'HKM Hyderabad' (Hare Krishna Movement), a Krishna-consciousness charitable society in the devotional lineage of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada's ISKCON — organizationally comparable to ISKCON Bangalore's Hare Krishna Hill (already in this directory), which is run by the same wider network. Sources reviewed for this entry did not explicitly confirm current GBC-ISKCON (the main Governing Body Commission) affiliation for this specific temple, so it is recorded here under its own documented name rather than badged as ISKCON outright. A separate, unambiguously GBC-ISKCON-run Krishna-Balarama temple and goshala also exists at Dabilpur village near Medchal in the wider Hyderabad region, distinct from Birla Mandir and from this Banjara Hills temple.
