Location
Open in Google MapsBuilt by the Birla Foundation over roughly ten years and opened in 1976, this temple sits atop the 280-foot Naubat Pahad hillock overlooking Hussain Sagar lake. Constructed from about 2,000 tonnes of white marble in a style blending Dravidian, Rajasthani, and Utkala (Odishan) architectural elements, it houses an 11-foot granite image of Venkateswara. Like the other Birla temples built across India by the same industrialist family (a pattern also seen in this directory’s Birla-associated temples in Bihar), it is explicitly open to devotees of all backgrounds, a principle its founders associated with Mahatma Gandhi’s own views on temple access.
