Built on a large campus in Robbinsville Township, New Jersey, this Akshardham complex is the newest of the major stone mandirs raised by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha in North America, following earlier BAPS temples in Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, and Toronto. Construction began in 2015 and continued for eight years, drawing on a volunteer workforce reported at more than 12,500 people alongside professional stone carvers, and using imported marble, pink sandstone from Rajasthan, and limestone carved according to traditional Vastu Shastra and Pancharatra Shastra principles rather than modern structural steel. The complex was formally inaugurated on 8 October 2023.

The mandir houses thirteen shrines, with the central sanctum dedicated to Akshar Purushottam Maharaj โ€” Bhagwan Swaminarayan worshipped together with his foremost disciple Gunatitanand Swami, the theological focus of the BAPS tradition within Vaishnavism โ€” and additional shrines to Radha-Krishna, Venkateswara-Padmavati, Rama, and Shiva-Parvati. It is widely reported, including in press coverage at its opening, as the largest Hindu mandir in the Western Hemisphere and the second-largest Hindu temple complex in the world after Angkor Wat, with thousands of carved statues and motifs across its stonework, including a frieze depicting all 108 poses of Bharatanatyam classical dance. Since its opening it has drawn large numbers of visitors, both Hindu devotees and the general public, to a region that previously had no comparably large traditional stone mandir.
