Divya Desam #108 ยท Celestial
Paramapadam (Sri Vaikuntam)
The eternal, transcendent abode of Lord Vishnu โ here worshipped as Paramapadanathan, seated and facing south, with the Goddess (Peria Piraatiyaar) โ described in Sri Vaishnava tradition as existing beyond the material cosmos altogether, past the Ocean of Milk (Thiruparkadal). This is not a physical or travel destination: it has no address, coordinates, darshan hours, or how-to-reach information. Its sacred waters are named as the Virajaa river and the Ayiramadha Pushkarini. It is the final and 108th Divya Desam, glorified in a combined 36 verses across eight Alvars in the Divya Prabandham (Perialwar 4, Aandaal 1, Thirumazhisaialwar 2, Thirupaanalwar 1, Thirumangaialwar 1, Poigaialwar 2, Peyalwar 1, Nammalwar 21). See the Beyond Earth section for related cosmology entries.
Sources for this classification
- scripture: Nalayira Divya Prabandham โ 36 verses across eight Alvars (see celestial_note for the per-Alvar breakdown); Nammalvar alone contributes 21
- historical record: Verse/Alvar counts cross-checked against the Indian Heritage temple documentation project's Divya Desam summary pages.
For review
- Per-Alvar verse counts are taken from a single secondary source (indian-heritage.org) and were not cross-verified against a second independent source; worth confirming against a direct Divya Prabandham verse index before treating as fully verified.
