In raudra-bhakti-rasa, krodha-rati is the sthāyi-bhāva. It has three types: kopa, manyu and roṣa. Kopa is anger directed towards enemies. Manyu is anger directed to one’s friends. Friends are of three types: superior, equal and inferior. Roṣa is a woman’s anger directed against Kṛṣṇa. This actually becomes a vyabhicāri-bhāva in madhura-rasa.

In all these humors of ecstatic love, the feeling of anger is accepted as the steady factor.

Commentary

In madhura-rasa (between the gopīs and Kṛṣṇa), this anger (roṣa) becomes a vyabhicāri-bhāva. For the elder women and the sakhīs, kopa and manyu become a sthāyi-bhāva, but for the women lovers in madhura-rasa, anger, called roṣa, directed to Kṛṣṇa, does not become a sthāyi-bhāva in raudra-rasa. [Note: Thus it is not discussed here.] Among the previously mentioned vyabhicāri-bhāvas, when augrya (ferocity) is prominent, it is directed to enemies. When amarṣa (indignation) is prominent it is directed to friends. When asūyā (fault-finding) is prominent it is directed to the lover.
