O slender-thighed woman! Mādhava, the color of the rain cloud, effulgent like a young elephant king, bedecked for a multitude of pastimes, effulgent with a stylish creation of cut and uncut cloth, in white, gold, blue and red colors, is giving me bliss.

This dress of Kṛṣṇa is described as gorgeous. As a baby elephant is sometimes dressed in colorful clothing, so Kṛṣṇa’s gorgeousness was manifested by decoration with such colorful clothing on the different parts of His body.

Commentary

Sanniveśa means a created work. Kalabha-rāṭ-prabha means one who has the effulgence of the king of the young elephants. Both cut and uncut cloth are mentioned because cloth was used to make various ornaments by cutting (whereas whole pieces of cloth were used for shawls and turbans etc.) Similar cloth was given by the weaver to Kṛṣṇa when He first went to Mathurā. Use of the word śṛṅgāritaḥ denotes wearing fancy cloth similar to that of a young elephant (since śṛṅgāra can refer particularly to the elaborate dressing of an elephant on festive occasions.)
